Following Friend, The Great Legacy, director Kwak Kyung Taek returns to seventies Busan for the involving crime mystery The Classified File. Inspired by a true kidnapping case, the film features strong performances by award-winning actors Kim Yoon Seok (Haemoo) and Yu Hae Jin (Veteran) as two very different men – one a cop, the other a fortune teller – brought together by their common drive to save a young girl.
In 1978 Busan, Eun Joo, a girl from a wealthy family, is abducted outside her school, but for two weeks the kidnapper does not contact the family for ransom and no leads are found. With the case stalled and hope running out, Eun Joo's mother starts seeking out fortune tellers, and one, Kim Joong San (Yu Hae Jin), not only tells her that Eun Joo is still alive but also accurately predicts that the perpetrators will make contact on the 15th day. Wary veteran detective Gong Gil Yong (Kim Yoon Seok) is brought over from another district to take on the case. With the investigation twisting and turning under the machinations of the elusive kidnapper and police station politics, Gil Yong forms an unlikely partnership with Joong San in order to rescue Eun Joo before it's too late. |
