For his second directorial feature, award-winning actor Ha Jung Woo adapts Chinese author Yu Hua's acclaimed novel Chronicle of a Blood Merchant, transplanting the famous story to postwar Korea in this period dramedy. The popular actor himself stars as the hero Heo Sam Gwan, a simple-minded and simple-hearted worker just getting by on his wages. To court the most beautiful girl in town, he sells his blood to earn money and gains her hand in marriage. Years later, the two have three children together and all seems well, but then rumors begin to spread that Heo is not the real father of his first son. Besides top actress Ha Ji Won as Heo's wife, Chronicle of a Blood Merchant casts some of Korea's finest supporting actors – including Sung Dong Il, Kim Sung Kyun, Jo Jin Woong, Lee Kyoung Young – as well as Kim Young Ae (The Attorney) to play different denizens of the town with their own colorful side stories. |
