Winner of Best Film and Best Actor at the 48th Baeksang Arts Awards, the critically acclaimed blockbuster Unbowed is inspired by a true case that gripped Korean headlines in 2007. In what was dubbed the "crossbow terror" incident, a professor was charged for shooting an arrow at a judge. Unbowed brings that case to the silver screen in a compelling courtroom drama that examines the truth behind the truth and exposes the flaws of the legal system. Legendary actor Ahn Sung Ki delivers a dynamic, dignified performance as the defendant who refuses to back down. Park Won Sang co-stars as his attorney, Na Young Hee as his wife, and Kim Ji Ho as a reporter covering the case. Unbowed is the first narrative feature in over a decade from director Chung Ji Young, who made many films in the nineties, including White Badge and Beyond the Mountain. After being unfairly dismissed, professor Kim Kyung Ho (Ahn Sung Ki) files a lawsuit against his university, but the residing judge Park Bong Joo (Kim Eung Soo) rules against Kim despite strong evidence supporting his claim. Kim confronts Park outside his home, with a crossbow and arrow in hand. After the ensuing struggle, the police arrive on the scene and Kim is apprehended for assault. Park claims Kim shot him, but Kim insists he did not. The media is out in full when court opens, and much is at stake for Kim, Park, and the judicial office. Kim and his attorney (Park Won Sang) throw the law back at the court, questioning the shaky evidence and unfair trial proceedings, but the guilty verdict seems to have been decided even before the case is tried. |
