About the Authors

New Zealand-born Roger Shepherd spent his youth in Africa, where he served as a game handler, ranger, and safari guide. In 2007, he and friend Andrew Douch set out on hike of the Baekdu-daegan trail, completing it in 70 days.

Andrew Douch grew up on the slopes of a volcano on New Zealand’s North Island. He has spent his life hiking the enchanted landscape of his homeland and other mountains across Asia. Since moving to Korea in 2000, he has made it his mission to explore every inch of the country.

David Mason has lived in Korea since the early 1980s. A professor of Korean Tourism at Kyung Hee University and a researcher of the religious character of Korea’s mountains, he has authored six books on Korean culture and tourism, including “Spirit of the Mountains,” an exploration of Korea’s traditions of spiritual mountain worship.
