  • Product Description
  • After proving his passion and gift for filmmaking with “Die Bad” (composed of four shorts), Ryoo Seung-wan has continued to shape his stylistic range through various genres: noir action with “No Blood, No Tears”; comic action with “Dachimawa Lee”; urban martial arts with “Arahan”; human drama with “Crying Fist”; and more. Running through this wide spectrum of films like an electric current is action that achieves a new kind of poetry and vision. “The City of Violence” (2006) was invited to Venice International Film Festival in the Midnight Section. 2010 sees Ryoo releasing “The Unjust” and “Trapped” (working title).

    From the Preface

In modern Korean film, the films of Ryoo Seung-wan weave the most dazzling carpet, where the tendencies of the A-list movie and the B-movie, the action film and the documentary of life on the streets, the melodrama capturing characters’ tears and the gore film refusing to shy away from the depiction of blood-spattered battles, the realist spirit looking into the minute details of life and the fantasy film seeking to nimbly surmount the suffering of this world all mix freely and form interesting new wrinkles.
