Gwanghwamun Love Song
 

Directed by Lee Jina with music directed by Kim Moon-jeong, the musical “Gwanghwamun Sonata” is a brilliant creation by Korea’s best creative team, including the Yoon Do-hyun Band and 24 top actors. It is a masterpiece composed by the late composer Lee Young-hoon, who gave birth to songs like “Old Love,” “When Love Passes” and “Gwanghwamun Sonata.”

Slash—Live in Seoul
 

Slash, the immensely talented and stylistically distinctive lead guitarist of Guns N Roses, will hold his first concert in Korea. The legendary performer, immediately recognized by the long hair flowing from his black top hat, will play haunting guitar melodies from his solo album “Slash.” Joining him on stage to provide vocals is Myles Kennedy from rock band Alter Bridge. In 2009, Time Magazine placed Slash as No. 2 on its list “10 Best Electric Guitar Players of All-Time,” right behind Jimi Hendrix.

Far East Movement—Live In Seoul
 

Far East Movement (stylized Far * East Movement ) is an Asian American electro hop Group based in Los Angeles. They put together their first multicultural live music event in Koreatown, Los Angeles to benefit a drug rehabilitation center in the community called “Movementality.” FM’s first claim to fame was their song “Round Round” featured in the Hollywood movie, “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift,” and its subsequent soundtrack, video game and DVD.

Bukcheong Lion Dance

Seoul Namsan Traditional Theater, Korean traditional music composer Oh Tae-seok and Mokhwa Repertory Company bring together the Bukcheong Lion Dance, Korea’s representative lion dance, and the legends of the Three Kingdoms into a single performance. Originating in northern Korea, the Bukcheong Lion Dance was a season folk play performed to cast out evil spirits and to pray for a bountiful harvest.

RASKB Tour: Masterpieces of Silk Embroidery
 

Embroidery is one of humankind’s oldest art forms, and for millennia people around the world have utilized needle and thread to embellish textiles with dazzling colors and patterns. On this tour, the R.A.S. provides a visually stunning and intellectually stimulating exploration of embroidered silk masterpieces in several of Korea’s greatest collections of this art form – The Chung Young Yang Embroidery Museum, The Sookmyung Women’s University Museum, and the Museum of Korean Embroidery – as well as the opportunity to shop for and purchase some magnificent needlework for yourself.

WA: The Spirit of Harmony and Japanese Design Today

The exhibition “WA: The Spirit of Harmony and Japanese Design Today,” organized by the Korea Foundation and the Japan Foundation, puts on display 161 items selected from a variety of fields in 12 categories: tableware, bathware, consumer electronics, digital technology, play products, stationery, miscellaneous house wares, apparel & accessories, wraps & bags, transportation, furniture, and lighting fixtures. Moreover, six keywords—cute, crafted, fine-grained, tactile, minimal, and thoughtful—will be presented as unique elements of Japanese design, and related works will be exhibited. Admission is free, and there will be special lectures about Japanese contemporary design during the exhibition as well as screenings of Japanese films in March.

Looking for Volunteer English Conversation Teacher (Part Time) – Dialogue in the Dark, the revolutionary Sinchon-based permanent exhibition that takes place in total darkness and allows visitors to experience the world via their remaining senses, is looking for volunteers to teach English conversation to its staff and exhibition guides. Learn Korean Traditional Dance – Chumsae Dance School is offering lessons on Korean traditional dance. Morning (10:00—11:30, Tue Thu), afternoon (4:00—5:30, Mon Wed) and evening classes (7:30—9:00 Tue Thu) available. Classes are limited to 10 persons each. Tuition is 200,000 won a month. KFCC Films – The Korea Foundation Cultural Center runs regular screenings of both Korean and foreign films, with subtitles. In March, they’ll be running “Kisarazu Cat’s Eye: World Series,” “Kisarazu Cat’s Eye: Nihon Series,” “Ori Ume,” “The Foreign Duck, The Native Duck and God In a Coin Locker,” “Ten Dreamy Nights,” “Memories of Matsuko,” “A Geisha,” “Megane,” “A Gentle Breeze in the Village” and more. Korean Language Classes – The Korea Foundation Cultural Center Offers free Korean language classes for foreigners residing in Korea. The classes, led by Korea Foundation volunteer teachers, are held at 7:00-9:00 pm every Monday, Wednesday and Friday (two classes at 4:00 and 7:00 on Wednesdays). Anyone interested in learning Korean language and willing to participate in the language class is welcome to join. For more information, click here.
