Known for erotic costume pieces like The Servant and Forbidden Quest, writer-director Kim Dae Woo sets Obsessed, his latest tale of forbidden love and infidelity, in a countryside army camp in the late sixties. Heartthrob Song Seung Heon (A Better Tomorrow) stars as the tortured war hero in the sensuous period melodrama opposite breakout newcomer Lim Ji Yeon. Jo Yeo Jeong (The Servant) and Ohn Joo Wan (The Taste of Money) co-star as their respective spouses.
In the summer of 1969, Colonel Kim Jin Pyeong (Song Seung Heon) returns to South Korea after serving in Vietnam. In the envious eyes of outsiders, he is the perfect son-in-law of the army commander and a decorated war hero about to be promoted to general. In truth, he is suffering from post-traumatic disorder and trapped in a loveless marriage with Soo Jin (Jo Yeo Jeong), who is desperate for a child. One night, he meets new neighbor Jong Ga Heun (Im Ji Yeon), the Chinese-Korean wife of Captain Kyung Woo Jin (Ohn Joo Wan) who recently transfered to the army camp. Jin Pyeon becomes increasingly attracted to Ga Heun, who carries herself differently than the other army wives. In the stifling atmosphere of the army camp, the two fall into a secret and passionate affair.
